About the role

Manchester is rebuilding itself at pace, and most of the interesting schemes have the same problem: not enough senior electrical engineers who can run the design rather than shadow it.This one is at one of the UK's largest interdisciplinary design practices, where the electrical team shares a studio with architects, mechanical engineers, lighting designers and sustainability specialists. The workload spans healthcare, education, culture, workplace and city scale regeneration, most of it within walking distance of the office that designed it.You would lead electrical design from concept through construction: infrastructure, distribution, controls and the coordination that makes interdisciplinary work either a joy or a fight, depending on who is doing it. You would run client relationships, review the work of younger engineers, and have a full technical bench behind you when a scheme gets complicated. You will need strong electrical building services design experience, comfort leading packages on sizeable projects, and chartership either achieved or close. The practice runs a proper structured route for anyone still finishing it.Salary is between 47,000 and 60,000. The role is based in the Manchester studio, a short walk from Piccadilly, in a building the practice designed for itself as a working example of the low energy engineering it sells to clients. If your current firm keeps promising you the next big scheme and handing it elsewhere, send a CV and take one that already exists. If you've read this far and you're still unsure and would prefer a detailed market insight including salary bands and market trends - then check out our free guide here: https://www.responsumltd.com/uk-salary-guide-2026
