Scientific Director & Team Lead, MedComms
About the role
Scientific Director & Team Lead – Global account within Envision 90TEN agency, Envision Medical Communications, focusing on oncology and immunology medical communications.
You will lead a talented team of medical writers, providing scientific direction and guiding medical communications activities to deliver high-quality, impactful content for global clients, working closely with Scientific and Account Management counterparts.
Role responsibilities
- In collaboration with both Scientific and Account Management counterparts, provide overarching scientific, strategic, and tactical leadership for the assigned account.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with external stakeholders and engage in discussions of science and strategy with clients and external experts.
- Demonstrate and maintain knowledge of assigned therapeutic areas, client and competitor products, and industry regulations.
- Create high‑quality, scientifically accurate, and compliant content to meet client briefs across a variety of project types.
- Contribute to scientific strategy development and recommend communication approaches for optimal support of the client's objectives.
- Critically review the team's work and provide feedback to ensure scientific accuracy and strategic alignment.
- Participate in and drive client meetings and onsite programs, developing materials and delivering presentations, as needed.
- Manage team performance, including the development of contribution plans, progression planning and identifying training opportunities to ensure optimal team development and retention.
- Manage and negotiate team resources for the assigned account and participate in recruitment activities, as needed.
- Drive the implementation of, and ensure adherence to, processes that align with internal and client SOPs and policies.
- Manage and prioritize own and team workload, delivering to agreed timeline and budget, to meet client and business needs.
- Partner with Account Management to provide input for project specifications and budget generation, drive project status tracking and out‑of‑scope reporting.
- Drive the development of scientific content for new business proposals and participate in pitch presentations.
Skills & expertise
- An advanced degree (or equivalent relevant experience) in a life sciences or clinical discipline.
- Extensive experience within a medical communications agency, preferably at a global level.
- Experience with a range of publications and medical communications deliverables.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively lead and mentor a team of direct reports, promoting a positive and collaborative team environment.
- Experience managing multiple projects, with the ability to flex and adapt to changing priorities.
- Ability to think strategically, solve challenges and utilize available resources.
- Strong communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
