Mechanical Maintenance Engineer

Mechanical Technician – Energy ERF Site Location: Exeter Working Pattern: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday (1 in 4 callout rota) Salary: £58,000 per year Job Type: Full Time | Permanent | Days An exciting opportunity has arisen for a skilled Mechanical Technician to join a leading Energy Recovery Facility (ERF). This role is ideal for someone with a background in mechanical maintenance within a process, energy, utilities, or heavy industrial environment. As a Mechanical Technician, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of the facility through hands-on maintenance and fault diagnosis of key mechanical systems. Key Responsibilities: Perform planned and unplanned mechanical maintenance to ensure plant availability and reliability. Diagnose faults and carry out repairs on mechanical systems and components. Assist in the coordination and supervision of contractors when required. Input maintenance activities accurately into the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS). Conduct plant and area safety inspections in line with site standards. Work in compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across maintenance operations. Participate in a 1 in 4 callout rota, providing emergency maintenance support when required. Requirements: Essential: Experience in mechanical maintenance within a power plant, process industry, or similar environment. Familiarity with maintenance management systems. Strong communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Problem-solving and logical thinking capabilities. Recognised mechanical qualification (e.g. City & Guilds/NVQ) including completion of a formal apprenticeship. Desirable: Experience working under Safe Systems of Work and Permit to Work procedures. Basic IT literacy and familiarity with CMMS platforms. Additional qualifications such as welding certification, health & safety training, or a full UK driving licence. Previous experience within Energy from Waste (EfW), Energy Recovery Facilities (ERF), power generation, or heavy industrial sectors. What's in it for you: Competitive salary of £58,000 per year.
