About Us

Founded in 1641, Hutchesons' Grammar School is one of Scotland's leading independent schools, educating more than 1,000 boys and girls from age 3 to 18. Combining a rich heritage with a forward-looking approach to education, the School is committed to academic excellence, pupil wellbeing and developing young people who will make a positive contribution to society.

Governed by Hutchesons' Educational Trust, a registered Scottish charity, the School is guided by values of ambition, integrity, kindness and respect. As we look to the future, our Board plays a vital role in ensuring the School's continued success, sustainability and impact.

About the Role

We are seeking new Trustees to join our Board and help shape the strategic direction of one of Scotland's most respected educational institutions.

Trustees provide oversight of the School's governance, financial stewardship and long-term sustainability. Working collaboratively with fellow Board members and the Senior Leadership Team, you will contribute to strategic decision-making, ensure compliance with legal and regulatory obligations, and provide constructive support and challenge in the best interests of current and future pupils.

The role offers a rewarding opportunity to contribute your skills and experience to an organisation with a strong educational mission and a lasting impact on young people's lives.

The expected commitment is five Board meetings per year, an annual Strategy Day, and membership of at least one Board committee. Remote participation is fully supported.

About You

We welcome applications from individuals with diverse professional backgrounds and experiences. Previous board experience is not essential.

You will bring:

  • A commitment to the values and educational mission of Hutchesons' Grammar School.
  • Strategic thinking, sound judgement and strong communication skills.
  • The ability to analyse information, ask constructive questions and contribute effectively to collective decision-making.
  • Integrity, independence of thought and a commitment to good governance.
  • We are particularly interested in hearing from individuals with experience in finance, legal and regulatory affairs, human resources, technology and cybersecurity, or commercial and senior leadership roles.
