About the role
We are partnering with a highly successful, established hedge fund to appoint its first senior, dedicated technology leader.
The firm has grown significantly in recent years and is now entering the next stage of its institutional development. Technology is central to that evolution, and this individual will take ownership of the firm’s technology strategy, operating model and future roadmap.
This is not a traditional, purely managerial Head of Technology position.
The successful candidate will be a hands-on technology leader who can operate strategically while remaining close to the detail. They will work directly with the executive committee, investment professionals and operational teams to improve how technology is governed, prioritised and delivered across the organisation.
The mandate will include:
- Defining and executing the firm’s technology strategy
- Managing and challenging external technology providers
- Establishing clear governance, controls and delivery standards
- Evaluating the resilience and scalability of the existing technology environment
- Partnering with investment and non-investment teams to improve workflows
- Identifying opportunities to deploy AI and automation across the business
- Introducing robust software engineering, testing, documentation and release practices
- Supporting the firm’s continued international growth
- Building the internal technology capability over time
The firm is looking for someone with a strong software engineering background who has developed into a broader technology leadership role.
This person is likely to have experience across several areas of technology rather than being confined to one specialism. They will understand software development, infrastructure, cloud, cybersecurity, data, business applications and technology operations, while being credible enough to make informed decisions across each area.
The successful individual will be:
- Technically credible and capable of remaining hands-on
- Commercially minded and able to understand the priorities of an investment business
- Comfortable challenging senior stakeholders and competing demands
- Pragmatic, delivery-focused and able to operate without unnecessary bureaucracy
- Interested in AI and its practical application within an investment firm
- Motivated by the opportunity to build, improve and take genuine ownership
This is an unusually broad and influential position with significant exposure to the firm’s leadership and investment teams.
For the right individual, it offers a clear trajectory towards becoming the firm’s CTO as the organisation and internal technology function continue to develop.
Previous hedge fund or investment management experience would be highly advantageous, although candidates from broader financial services environments will also be considered where they can demonstrate strong commercial judgement and experience operating across multiple areas of technology.
London-based.
