Production Manager
About the role
Production Manager:
Staffordshire £50,000 to £60,000 - Days, 7.30am to 5pm
As Production Manager, imagine having almost every manufacturing process you could think of happening under one roof.
Laser cutting, press machinery, robotic welding, fabrication and fitting, with around 300 people working across the day shift.
It's a busy place, and it's getting busier.
The business is experiencing significant growth, which is why they're investing in additional Production Managers to support their existing teams.
And whilst knowing your way around a manufacturing environment is important, it's your ability to get the best out of people that will really make the difference here.
Because you can have all the machinery, skilled operators and production plans in the world, but you still need someone who knows how to bring everyone together. That's where you come in.
As Production Manager, you'll have your own area of responsibility, working with experienced operators who know their machinery, understand the processes and take pride in what they do.
You don't need to have experience of every machine, and you certainly don't need to have worked in the same industry.
But you'll understand manufacturing, ideally, you'll have spent enough time around machinery to know when something doesn't look quite right!...you'll want to get to know your team.
Not just who's good at what, but what makes them tick, who needs a little encouragement and who might have an idea that could make everyone's working day a little easier.
As Production Manager, you'll be managing different personalities, some who've been doing their jobs for years and others who are still finding their feet.
You'll be approachable, but equally comfortable having those more difficult conversations around performance, absence or ways of working when they're needed.
You'll also have a dedicated planning department and an in-house production system developed specifically around how the business operates.
So, you can concentrate on your people, making sure materials are available and production runs safely and efficiently.
The business has changed considerably over recent years. Facilities and working conditions have improved, health and safety has become a real priority and the management culture is much more open.
There's still room for improvement, and they're quite open about that.
But there's a good bunch of people here. They're sociable, they look out for one another and when someone needs a bit of support, they're often the first to offer it.
Your new boss the Operations Director started here as an apprentice and has worked his way through the business.
He knows the shop floor, understands the challenges, and appreciates managers who take the time to listen to their teams.
As Production Manager, you'll have his support, but you'll also be trusted to make decisions and bring your own experience to the operation.
You might already be a Production Manager, Manufacturing Manager or Fabrication Manager. Perhaps you're a Shift Manager looking for that next step.
Experience with lean manufacturing, Kaizen or continuous improvement would be useful, particularly as you get to know the processes and start identifying where things could work better.
But first and foremost, they're looking for someone who knows how to manage people.
As Production Manager, you'll receive:
£50,000 to £60,000 depending on experience
Day shifts, 7.30am to 5pm
30 days' holiday including bank holidays, increasing to 31 after five years and 32 after ten years
Company pension
Employee Assistance Programme
Free parking
Life insurance after two years' service
If you're a Production Manager who enjoys being on the shop floor, getting to know your team and seeing the difference good management can make, I'd love to have a conversation.
