Functional Skills Outreach Tutor (Entry Level 3 to Level 2)
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Prospero Teaching is seeking a dedicated Functional Skills Outreach Tutor to deliver personalised English and Maths programmes to learners working between Entry Level 3 and Level 2, many of whom have Special Educational Needs (SEN) or have been out of formal education for an extended period in Barking and Dagenham.
As a Functional Skills Outreach Tutor, you will design and deliver 1:1 bespoke learning sessions that rebuild confidence, close learning gaps, and support learners to achieve accredited outcomes. You will play a key role in re‑engaging young people in education by offering structured, accessible, and motivating sessions tailored to their individual needs.
Many learners may present with low confidence, anxiety, or barriers to learning. Your role is to provide a calm, consistent, and supportive learning environment that encourages progress and independence. Prospero Teaching will work closely with you to monitor learner development and ensure high‑quality teaching and learning.
CONTRACT / POSITION DETAILS
Location - Barking and Dagenham
Position - Functional Skills Outreach Tutor
Type of work - 1:1 tuition (English & Maths)
Start date - ASAP
Duration - Dependent on individual learner needs
Contract type - Temporary
Hours - Part‑time or full‑time depending on availability
Pay - From £25 per hour
Session length - Minimum 1 hour, maximum 3 hours per learner per dayEXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND QUALIFICATIONS
Teaching qualification such as QTS, QTLS, PGCE, or equivalent
Experience delivering Functional Skills English and/or Maths (Entry Level 3 to Level 2)
SEN experience supporting learners with additional needs
Minimum 6 months' experience working in a UK education setting
Up‑to‑date Safeguarding training (desirable but not essential)TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THIS ROLE, YOU MUST:
Hold Right to Work in the UK
Hold an enhanced child‑barred list DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one
Provide two professional references covering the last two yearsOTHER INFORMATION
