About the role

Experteer Overview As Senior Legal Counsel, you will support Monzo's payments business, including digital assets and emerging payment technologies, acting as a strategic legal partner across product, risk, and engineering teams. You will help navigate a fast-evolving regulatory landscape to enable responsible innovation and scalable growth. You'll collaborate with senior lawyers and cross-functional teams to provide practical legal and commercial guidance.   • Advise product teams on legal and regulatory matters relating to digital assets and emerging payments technologies Develop efficient, scalable processes to support rapid growth while ensuring regulatory compliance Provide training and knowledge sharing on laws impacting Monzo and its customers Act as a sole or primary legal adviser to product managers when needed, identifying risks and proposing solutions Collaborate with the Director of Legal for Payments & Business Banking, General Counsel, and UK Legal team to align on digital assets guidance Advise on evolving regulatory frameworks for digital assets across UK and EU Support cost management and vendor relationships to ensure high-quality legal support within budget Assist in improving workflow tools and technology to streamline legal operations Engage with cross-functional stakeholders (Product, Risk & Compliance, FinCrime, Fraud, Operations) to embed compliance by design Support international growth initiatives in collaboration with product and legal teams Tasks Minimum 5 years post-qualification experience in law Recent experience with digital assets and emerging financial technologies Proven ability to advise on UK financial services laws and regulatory regimes as applied to digital assets Strong risk assessment and problem-solving skills with a commercial mindset Proactive, collaborative, and able to work in a fast-paced environment Interest in banking-technology intersection and transformation of consumer finance Ability to work across multiple senior stakeholders and teams Key requirements incentive awards tied to performance relocation support to the UK flexible working hours learning budget of 1000 per year London office-based role comprehensive benefits package (unspecified)
