Zest4Talent is delighted to be recruiting a Junior Embodied Carbon Consultant on behalf of an established multidisciplinary building-services and sustainability consultancy in Edinburgh.
This position would suit an early-career sustainability professional who wants to develop specialist knowledge of embodied carbon, Whole Life Carbon Assessment and Life Cycle Assessment.
Working with experienced sustainability consultants and multidisciplinary design teams, you will help assess the environmental impact of buildings and identify practical opportunities to reduce carbon throughout the design and construction process.
The Role
Your responsibilities will include:
- Assisting with the delivery of Whole Life Carbon Assessments and Life Cycle Assessments.
- Calculating embodied carbon across different stages of a building’s lifecycle.
- Collecting and reviewing information relating to materials, quantities and construction methods.
- Supporting carbon modelling using recognised assessment software and databases.
- Reviewing Environmental Product Declarations and other product information.
- Comparing design options and identifying opportunities to reduce carbon.
- Preparing technical reports, calculations and presentations.
- Supporting circular-economy and wider sustainability statements.
- Liaising with architects, engineers, contractors and clients.
- Developing your knowledge of relevant standards, planning requirements and industry guidance.
About You
To be considered, you should have:
- A degree in sustainability, environmental engineering, building services, architecture, construction, quantity surveying or another relevant subject.
- An academic or practical understanding of embodied carbon, WLCA or LCA.
- Good analytical, numerical and problem-solving skills.
- Confidence working with technical information and data.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- A proactive approach to learning and professional development.
- A genuine interest in net-zero carbon and sustainable building design.
Previous experience with One Click LCA or similar software would be advantageous but is not essential for candidates with strong relevant knowledge and a willingness to learn.
