Consultant Pathologist

Western General Hospital

This new post has been created to support and enhance the delivery of pathology services within NHS Lothian. Successful candidates will work within the histopathology service in one of the leading pathology departments in the United Kingdom. The post is primarily based at Western General Hospital (WGH) and aims to enhance delivery of Gastrointestinal, Urological, Breast, and Dermatopathology subspecialty areas. The department may accommodate other subspecialty interests depending on service needs and candidate diagnostic interests. The post is full time (1.0 WTE, 10 PA); applications from individuals wishing to work less than full time are also welcomed.

Qualifications

• Full GMC Registration, license to practice, and eligibility for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register.
• UK‑trained with evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or within 6 months of confirmed entry from interview date.
• Portfolio Pathway (formerly CESR) route doctors eligible only after substantive post awarded.
• Non‑UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training.

Responsibilities

Provide specialist pathology services across the mentioned subspecialty areas, support service delivery, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and contribute to clinical governance and quality improvement initiatives.
