What Is the Opportunity? The role requires a working command of the insurance value chain - how risk originates and flows from insured through retail broker, wholesale broker and MGA to carrier, where underwriting authority is held or delegated at each step. It requires an understanding of insurance financials: rate adequacy and loss ratio development, the acquisition cost stack, expense ratio drivers, and differing level of the capital intensity and volatility of a class. And it requires a commercial read on two markets that behave very differently - a subscription London Market shaped by Lloyd's oversight, lead and follow economics, facilities and delegated authority, and a retail market shaped by broker consolidation, carrier panel rationalisation, schemes and e-trade. We are looking for someone who brings that understanding on day one. This is a strategy advisory role, not programme, portfolio or transformation management.
• Strategy Formulation: Provide leadership and hands-on support to deliver key strategic initiatives, including strategic reviews, market horizon scanning, competitor benchmarking, and market insight development.
• Investment Framework: Shape the translation of strategy into a set of investment priorities that advance Travelers Europe’s market offering, capabilities, and operating model. Provide strategic insight to inform investment prioritisation and ensure alignment with business strategy objectives.
• Strategy Communications: Provide leadership on clear and effective communication of Travelers Europe’s business strategy, working with Corporate Communications and business stakeholders to ensure visibility of strategic priorities, progress, and outcomes.
• Performance Framework: Establish and mature performance frameworks including OKRs and KPIs, to monitor strategic progress, drive accountability, and support disciplined execution across priority initiatives.
• Strategic leader and critical thinker with a pragmatic, commercially minded leadership approach.
• Trusted advisor to senior stakeholders, skilled at navigating ambiguity, shaping strategic priorities, and building consensus with senior stakeholders.
• Highly proactive, resilient, and tenacious in driving progress across complex initiatives and maintaining momentum through challenge or uncertainty.
• Operates with significant autonomy and sound judgement, while knowing when to engage, influence, or escalate appropriately.
• Embodies Travelers’ values through integrity, innovation, customer focus, and a clear commitment to commercial outcomes.
Preferred Qualification s
• Degree in Business, Economics, Strategy, Finance, or a related discipline.
• Understanding of the London and European insurance markets, including regulatory frameworks, customer and distribution trends, and competitive dynamics.
• Experience in corporate strategy, business transformation, strategic planning, or a related discipline within a complex, multi-line organisation.
• Experience working with executive stakeholders and cross-functional teams to align activity around shared strategic objectives.
• Strong financial and analytical acumen, with the ability to assess portfolio performance, growth opportunities, investment priorities, and key performance metrics.
• Excellent communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to simplify complex concepts and translate analysis into clear, compelling insight for diverse audiences.
• Experience working across geographies and cultures, ideally within a global financial services or insurance organisation.
Minimum Qualifications
• Relevant strategy leadership experience, including proven success in corporate strategy, management consulting, or senior strategic roles within insurance or financial services.
