Field Service Engineer
About the role
The Role An opportunity for a strong mechanical service technician to support major manufacturers and OEMs across the UK, based near the company’s customer centre in Cheshire. You will keep customers’ production and assembly lines running by servicing, repairing, calibrating and installing assembly tooling, including pneumatic and DC electric tools such as nutrunners, together with the software and controllers that support them. This role suits someone who has worked on the production side of a manufacturing or OEM environment, such as automotive, aerospace or high-volume assembly, and understands the pressure of keeping a line running.
You will be the technical expert customers rely on on the shop floor, so a positive, professional customer-service approach is just as important as your mechanical ability. Experience with DC or torque tooling would be ideal but is not essential. Full training will be provided on the company’s tools, software and systems.
What Your Day Could Look Like Diagnosing a tooling fault on an OEM assembly line, carrying out preventative maintenance during a planned shutdown, calibrating torque tools, setting up controller software for a new station, installing new equipment, supporting a customer project or training line operators and maintenance teams. Key Responsibilities • Provide hands-on technical support on customer production and assembly lines across the UK. • Service, repair and maintain assembly tooling, including pneumatic tools, DC electric tools and nutrunners, ensuring safety compliance and documenting all work. • Carry out preventative maintenance, torque calibration and performance checks to minimise line downtime. • Install, commission and set up tooling, controllers and process control software. • Respond to breakdowns and urgent customer requests, working with production and maintenance teams to get lines back up and running. • Support bespoke assembly projects, line changes and customer rework requests. • Deliver product training and technical guidance to operators, engineers and maintenance teams. • Build strong, long-term relationships with customers, acting as a trusted point of contact on site. • Work closely with internal teams and Area Sales Managers to resolve application challenges, and identify opportunities for further products and services. Skills & Experience Essential • A strong mechanical background, with hands-on experience maintaining, repairing or servicing equipment. • Experience working on the production side of a manufacturing, OEM or high-volume assembly environment, such as automotive, aerospace or tier-1 supply. • A logical, methodical approach to fault-finding and a commitment to getting equipment back into production quickly. • Excellent customer service and communication skills, with the confidence to deal with production managers, engineers and operators. • Confidence using computers and technical software, and a willingness to learn new systems. • The ability to work independently and manage your own workload. • A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel extensively across the UK, including overnight stays.
Desirable • Experience with DC tooling, nutrunners, pulse, clutch or transducer tools. • Knowledge of torque, tightening or fastening systems and their applications. • Experience of working with tooling suppliers or providing a service to OEM customers. • Some electrical knowledge or experience with process control software. • An ONC/HNC, apprenticeship, NVQ, City & Guilds or equivalent mechanical engineering qualification. Personal Attributes • Customer-focused, professional and calm under pressure. • Self-motivated and proactive, taking ownership of problems through to resolution. • A strong team player with good interpersonal skills. • Flexible about workload, travel and occasional weekend work based on customer needs. • A positive attitude and a genuine willingness to learn. Training & Development Full training will be provided on the company’s tooling, controllers and software.
Within the first 6–12 months, you will build the knowledge and confidence to diagnose tooling and process issues independently, support customers on site and complete routine service, repair and calibration work. As your experience grows, you will take on greater responsibility for customer projects, software configuration and technical problem-solving. Why Apply • Work with advanced assembly tooling and torque technology used by leading manufacturers. • Work directly with major OEM and manufacturing customers. • Full technical training and ongoing development. • Build specialist knowledge in torque and assembly technology. • A varied, UK-wide role where no two days are the same
