About the role

Senior Legal Counsel, Employment Litigation – responsible for managing Employment Tribunal claims arising from Centrica Group companies in the UK. Reports to Head of Legal, Employment.

Flexible work arrangement with regular office presence in Windsor, and from the end of the year, Reading. Weekly travel to Windsor and occasional travel to other locations.

What will you do?

  • Identify and coordinate systems/processes and create precedents needed to undertake employment litigation in-house.
  • Engage with tech colleagues to introduce AI tools and platforms for litigation support.
  • Participate in LRECS trials of AI tools.
  • Serve as subject matter expert on Employment Tribunal litigation and procedure rules.
  • Manage and deliver all aspects of Centrica’s response to Employment Tribunal claims: drafting pleadings, witness statements, disclosure, risk assessment, applications, hearings, judicial mediation, settlements, liaise with Employee Relations, instruct Counsel.
  • Manage a small team comprising an Employment Litigation Counsel and a paralegal.
  • Build relationships with key stakeholders in the People team and keep them apprised of claims themes and trends.
  • Maintain relationships with external law panel firms and negotiate advantageous rates.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with Counsel’s chambers.

Here's who we’re looking for:

  • A qualified solicitor with a UK or equivalent practising certificate with significant relevant PQE experience.
  • Thorough and up‑to‑date knowledge of UK Employment Tribunal Procedure Rules and significant experience running multiple claims in private practice or in‑house.
  • Interest in technology and use of AI to improve litigation process.
  • Strong communication skills, explaining complex legal principles to internal stakeholders.
  • Team‑player capable of managing a small team and working autonomously at speed with competing deadlines.
  • Confident stakeholder management, working effectively with employment lawyers, Employee Relations team, business leaders, and witnesses.
  • Excellent presentation skills and willingness to deliver occasional training.
