Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in London is the official representative of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government in commercial relations and other economic and trade matters in the United Kingdom (UK) as well as Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, the Russian Federation and Sweden. Its mission is to foster closer economic and trade ties between Hong Kong and these nine countries. Applications are now invited for the following position based in London:
PRESS OFFICER
Job Type: Full-time, office-based position
Salary: £48,254 to £53,950 gross per annum
Entry Requirements
Suitable candidates should –
(a) possess a bachelor's degree, preferably in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, English, or a related discipline, together with at least five years' relevant working experience in journalism, communications, media relations, public administration, or other work relevant to the duties of the post;
(b) have excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese (Cantonese), with proficiency in Putonghua being an advantage;
(c) have a thorough knowledge of Hong Kong, including its current affairs, economy, society and institutions, together with a good understanding of the UK's media and public affairs environment;
(d) be equipped with excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills;
(e) display sound judgement, strong analytical ability and the ability to handle sensitive issues with professionalism, tact and discretion;
(f) demonstrate high standards of integrity, reliability and professionalism;
(g) be able to work independently, prioritise competing tasks and perform effectively under pressure and to tight deadlines; and
(h) be responsible for ensuring that they have the right to work in the UK.
Duties
The Press Officer will responsible for –
(a) preparing and editing publicity and information materials, including feature articles, press releases, publications and other written materials in both English and Chinese;
(b) undertaking public relations and promotional work to support the Office's activities and initiatives;
(c) providing communications support for official visits, events, exhibitions and promotional activities;
(d) developing and maintaining effective working relationships with the media and other stakeholders;
(e) handling media and public enquiries in a professional, accurate and timely manner;
(f) managing and updating the Office's social media platforms and digital communication channels;
(g) monitoring media coverage and preparing reports or analyses as required; and
(h) performing any other duties as assigned.
(Note: The successful candidate may be required to travel and work outside normal office hours.)
