About the role
Fullstack Engineer (Backend Focussed)
Node.js | TypeScript | AWS | PostgreSQL
London — 4 days per week onsite
£50,000–£55,000 + benefits and share options
Permanent, full-time
The Opportunity
I’m partnering with a growing London fintech building products that help people access, manage and save their money more effectively.
They’re looking for a backend-focused Software Engineer to join a small, high-ownership engineering team and help build reliable financial products used by real customers.
This is not a role where you’ll simply work through a backlog of pre-written tickets.
You’ll be trusted to understand the wider problem, contribute to technical decisions and own work from initial requirement through to production.
What You’ll Be Working On
- Designing and building backend services with Node.js and TypeScript
- Developing secure REST and GraphQL APIs
- Building and improving third-party integrations
- Working across payment, payroll and financial-data workflows
- Designing database-backed systems using PostgreSQL and MongoDB
- Improving production reliability, scalability and performance
- Investigating incidents and resolving underlying causes
- Strengthening automated testing, monitoring and CI/CD
- Working with AWS, Docker and cloud-native infrastructure
- Contributing to React-based product features when required
What We’re Looking For
- Around 3–7 years of commercial software engineering experience
- Strong backend development experience with Node.js and TypeScript
- Experience designing and maintaining production APIs
- Good knowledge of PostgreSQL or another relational database
- Hands-on AWS experience
- Experience with Docker, CI/CD and automated testing
- Confidence owning features across the full development lifecycle
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- A genuine interest in product outcomes, not just code delivery
Particularly Relevant Experience
Experience in any of the following would be valuable:
- Fintech, banking, payments or payroll
- Billing or subscription systems
- Event-driven architecture
- Kafka, SQS, SNS or RabbitMQ
- Webhooks and third-party integrations
- Authentication, permissions or RBAC
- Production incident response
- Microservices
- High-volume transactional systems
- Fast-growing SaaS or product-led businesses
The Environment
You’ll join a small engineering team where your work will be visible and your input will genuinely matter.
The strongest fit will be someone who is:
- Comfortable taking ownership
- Pragmatic and commercially aware
- Happy working through ambiguity
- Interested in improving existing systems
- Willing to challenge assumptions constructively
- Motivated by joining a growing product business
Package
- £50,000–£55,000 salary
- Benefits
- Share options
- London-based
- Four days per week onsite
- Clear opportunity for ownership and progression
