All the relevant skills, qualifications and experience that a successful applicant will need are listed in the following description.

An international law firm is looking to appoint a Junior Associate to join its highly regarded Projects, Development & Construction team in London.

This is an excellent opportunity for an NQ–2 PQE construction lawyer to join a well-established practice with a strong reputation across construction, development and major projects, working on sophisticated matters for leading developers, investors, funders, contractors and institutional clients.

The Role

The successful candidate will join a specialist non-contentious Construction and Projects team advising clients throughout the lifecycle of major development and infrastructure projects.

The practice works across a particularly broad range of sectors, including:

  • Real estate and commercial property
  • Residential development, housing and accommodation
  • Property investment
  • Regeneration and large-scale development
  • Energy and renewables
  • Healthcare and care
  • Hotels and leisure
  • Education
  • Infrastructure and major projects
  • Sustainability and emerging sectors

The team advises clients from the earliest stages of a project, helping to develop procurement and contracting strategies before negotiating and documenting the relevant arrangements.

Work & Responsibilities

The role will involve a broad range of non-contentious construction and development work, including:

  • Drafting and negotiating construction and development agreements
  • Procurement and contracting strategy
  • Construction due diligence
  • Development agreements and project documentation
  • Advising on standard form and bespoke construction contracts
  • Construction appointments and consultant agreements
  • Joint ventures and partnering arrangements
  • Large-scale regeneration and infrastructure projects
  • Energy and renewables projects
  • Advising on contractual risk allocation and project delivery

The team regularly works with JCT, NEC, EPC and EPCM forms, alongside bespoke agreements and multi-party contracting structures.

Associates will also have the opportunity to advise on issues arising during live projects, including payment, delay, extensions of time, contractual rights and obligations, termination and insolvency-related issues.

While the practice has significant expertise in resolving construction issues, the focus of this role is predominantly non-contentious, with an emphasis on helping clients manage risk, negotiate effectively and avoid disputes wherever possible.

Client Base & Quality of Work

The team acts for a diverse client base including:

  • Public sector and institutional clients
  • Property owners and investors
  • Developers
  • Funders
  • Contractors and specialist subcontractors
  • Suppliers
  • Construction and design consultants
  • Major businesses undertaking development and infrastructure projects

The work is predominantly UK-focused, although the team also advises on international projects across multiple jurisdictions, working alongside trusted international counsel and consultants where appropriate.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will be:

  • NQ–2 PQE
  • Qualified as a solicitor in England & Wales
  • Trained or experienced within a construction, projects or housing/development practice
  • Primarily experienced in non-contentious construction
  • Comfortable working with standard form construction contracts and appointments
  • Ideally familiar with JCT, NEC and EPC forms, including amendments and market norms
  • Interested in developing experience across construction, development and major projects
  • Commercially minded with strong drafting and negotiation skills
  • Keen to take on increasingly complex and bespoke agreements with appropriate supervision

Development & Career Opportunity

This is a strong platform for a junior construction lawyer looking to develop a broad, sophisticated non-contentious practice.

You will gain exposure to major development, infrastructure and construction projects, work closely with experienced lawyers and clients, and build expertise across both standard-form and bespoke contractual arrangements.

The breadth of the team's sector coverage also provides an opportunity to develop a career beyond traditional construction work, with exposure to projects, development, regeneration, energy and renewables. xwzovoh
