About the role

Job Requirements ROLE PURPOSETo perform stress activities, carrying out challenging analysis and calculations on a wide range of state of the art aerospace components. The role offers opportunities for developing skills, knowledge and experience in this exciting industry.The Stress Team delivers engineering solutions for the customer’s specialist component areas. This role requires a broad knowledge of a range of engineering commodities within gas turbines and/or other aerospace projects and the ability to understand and assess the mechanical integrity of the components under analysis.A permanent employee contract is available for this position. Location is in Derby, work is 100% in office due being Defence work. Candidate must be eligible for SC security clearance, 5 years resident in the UK, hence UK/EU citizen or ILR status preferred.JOB REQUIREMENT:Stress experience on aero gas turbine and/or naval marine shipsets is preferredPRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIESDelivering design solutions by carrying out structural & thermal analysis of aero engine and/or naval marine gas turbine componentsLinear/Non-linear stress analysis of rotating/static components.Ensure stress reports meet the appropriate levels of quality and robustness and confirm that defined requirements are metEnsure that all project stakeholders have the right information at the right time, through pro-active communicationSupport other team members with ongoing/future work packagesBaseline ResponsibilitiesTechnical support and execution for all stress/lifing activities such as:Application of Vibration (Campbell Diagram) analysis, creep analysisApplication of Low cycle fatigue (LCF), High cycle fatigue (HCF), creep, corrosion, erosion and crack propagation assessment of rotating machineryDamage and Tolerance/Melt anomaly methodsSupport thermo-mechanical solutionsContribute to development of best practices and productivity improvementsWork Experience EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS (ESSENTIAL TO CARRY OUT THIS ROLE)ExperienceApplicants should have a proven background in gas turbines, aero or naval marine applications at component level. Experience with OEM bespoke stress analysis software would be a major advantage.Ability to:Quickly understand problems, set prioritiesActively lead various tasks and issues while continuously working towards improvementsDrive technical delivery, through adherence to a number of key processes (safety, concessions, lifing, etc.)Understand complex system interactionsInterpret technical analysis, draw out key issues and present to project for review.Develop technical solutions, compliant with requirements, and make technical recommendationsDevelop solutions, based on experience, in new product designsKnowledge·      Demonstrate a good understanding of all aspects of aero engine or naval marine components·      Understand the Safety Process for in-service engines·      Understand the behaviour and limitations of aerospace materials·      Understand component lifing strategies and limitations·      Knowledge on system behaviour under impact loading·      Knowledge of composite failure & analysis methodsTool KnowledgeExperience of one or more of these is essential: ANSYS, PLM, UG NX, LS-Dyna, ICEM Meshing, ABAQUS, HYPERWORKS, SCO3Desirable: NASTRAN, PATRAN, SimcenterQualificationsMasters degree in Engineering (e.g. Aeronautical, Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering) or equivalent experience in a gas turbine OEMDISCLAIMER: Due to the nature of work candidates should be UK citizen/ EU Citizen/ Eligible to Security Clearance.About us : At Quest Global, it’s not just what we do but how and why we do it that makes us different.
