About the role

Site Engineer - Land & Earthworks

Location: Grays, Essex (RM16 area) - Site-based across project trace

Contract Duration: Initial 6-month contract

Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Pay Rate: Negotiable / Competitive hourly rate

About the Role

We are looking for a proactive, hands-on Site Engineer to join a major civil engineering scheme in Essex.

The project requires an engineer with strong "boots-on-the-ground" site presence to manage land possession, condition surveying, and site handovers. You will be visiting acquired land plots, farms, and properties earmarked for earthworks and demolition, capturing critical baseline conditions, identifying site risks, and coordinating access before major construction activity kicks off.

Key Responsibilities

Site Inspections & Land Condition Surveys: Walk project land parcels, agricultural plots, and acquired structures; carry out detailed pre-condition surveys using digital photography, video, and written documentation.
Pre-Demolition Coordination: Inspect properties and assets scheduled for demolition, identifying hazards and liaising with site security and delivery teams to plan safe access.
Digital Data & Reporting: Upload visual surveys via digital tools (e.g., OpenSpace) and produce accurate, audit-ready condition reports for land and engineering teams.
Handover & Reinstatement Tracking: Record accommodation works, operational boundary interfaces, and reinstatement obligations to support commercial recovery and legal compliance.
Site Support: Assist with on-site investigations, soil testing coordination, and interface between internal site delivery teams and external landowners/occupiers.

What We're Looking For

Proven track record as a Site Engineer or Section Engineer within civil engineering, highways, utilities, or heavy earthworks.
Practical site awareness-confident navigating varied ground conditions, farm land, and empty properties safely.
Strong digital and reporting skills (digital cameras/capture tools, OpenSpace experience is advantageous, plus MS Office/Excel).
Excellent attention to detail and clear communication when producing site records and interacting with stakeholders.
Full UK Driving Licence (essential due to travel across land plots).
Valid CSCS Card (or willingness to obtain prior to start).
Willingness to undergo standard site compliance screening (medical / D&A check).

How to Apply

If you are an experienced Site Engineer looking for an autonomous, site-based contract, please apply with your latest CV.
