Sheffield

Qualifications, skills, and all relevant experience needed for this role can be found in the full description below.

£47,000–£55,000 DOE + up to £5,000 annual bonus

Build the kind of home you would be proud to lead.

Alderwing Care is looking for an experienced and ambitious Registered Manager to lead the development of a new children’s residential home in Sheffield.

This is an opportunity to help shape the home from the outset — influencing recruitment, culture, practice, standards and the way children are supported.

You will work closely with the provider and Responsible Individual, with the professional autonomy and support needed to build a service that is safe, well-led and genuinely child-centred.

We are looking for someone who understands that a successful children’s home is built around stable relationships, a strong staff team, thoughtful placement matching and consistently high standards of care.

The role

As Registered Manager, you will:

  • Lead the home in accordance with the Children’s Homes Regulations 2015, Quality Standards and Ofsted requirements.
  • Take responsibility for the safe, effective and child-centred operation of the home.
  • Help shape the home’s culture, systems and practice from the outset.
  • Lead the recruitment, induction, supervision, development and performance of the staff team.
  • Promote a strong safeguarding culture and ensure concerns are identified, responded to and escalated appropriately.
  • Ensure children receive individualised care that reflects their needs, wishes, plans and outcomes.
  • Maintain effective care planning, risk management, recording and quality-assurance systems.
  • Develop positive working relationships with children, families, social workers, local authorities and other professionals.
  • Ensure the home is prepared for Ofsted inspection and that regulatory requirements are consistently met.
  • Work with the Responsible Individual and provider on monitoring, service development and continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to placement matching and admission decisions, with the welfare and compatibility of children remaining central to decision-making.
  • Build a stable, motivated team and create a culture where staff feel supported, accountable and able to develop.
Person specification

We are looking for someone with:

Essential
  • Significant experience working within children’s residential care.
  • Experience managing or supervising staff within a residential childcare setting.
  • A strong working knowledge of safeguarding, the Children’s Homes Regulations 2015 and the Quality Standards.
  • The experience required to satisfy Ofsted’s requirements for a Registered Manager.
  • Level 3 qualification in Residential Childcare or an accepted equivalent.
  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare, an accepted equivalent, or willingness and eligibility to complete the required qualification within the regulatory timeframe.
  • Strong leadership, communication and decision-making skills.
  • The ability to develop staff through effective supervision, coaching and performance management.
  • Confidence working with Ofsted, local authorities, social workers and other professionals.
  • Strong safeguarding judgement and the ability to make balanced decisions under pressure.
  • A commitment to creating a stable, nurturing and child-centred home.
Desirable
  • Previous experience as a Registered Manager or Deputy Manager in a children’s home.
  • Experience of an Ofsted inspection within a children’s residential setting.
  • Experience achieving or maintaining a Good or Outstanding Ofsted judgement.
  • Experience opening, registering or developing a new children’s home.
  • Experience recruiting and developing a residential childcare team.
  • Experience contributing to Statements of Purpose, workforce planning, policies and quality-assurance systems.
What Alderwing offers
  • £47,000–£55,000 salary, depending on experience
  • Up to £5,000 annual bonus
  • 32 days annual leave
  • Annual salary review
  • Protected management and administrative time
  • Experienced Responsible Individual support
  • Accessible provider support when needed
  • Professional autonomy to lead the home effectively
  • Genuine involvement in recruitment and building your team
  • Meaningful involvement in placement matching
  • Funded DBS, training and professional development
  • The opportunity to influence the culture and development of the home from the beginning
A different approach to bonus

Our bonus is focused on quality, safeguarding, team development and service improvement — not simply filling beds.

We believe the right placement matters more than the filled bed.

We want a Registered Manager who is able to make professional decisions in the interests of the children and the stability of the home.

Who we want to hear from

We welcome applications from experienced Registered Managers as well as strong Deputy Managers who have the experience, qualifications and leadership capability to make the step into registration.

If you are passionate about residential childcare and want the opportunity to help build a home with high standards, strong support and a genuinely child-centred culture, we would like to hear from you.
