An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Welsh speaking individual experienced in delivering excellent customer service and having a good knowledge on Welfare Benefits to deliver Money Advice.

They will deliver this service from Central Library Hub as well as the outreach hubs, Foodbank Distribution Centres and the regular one off events that the team are frequently invited to attend.

The successful candidate will provide advice on Welfare Benefits, Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction, Grants and Discounts and schemes and projects run by Cardiff Council. These services are to be delivered in person, telephone, web chat or in writing.

What We Are Looking For From You

The successful candidate will have a good knowledge of the topics involved in Money Advice support, namely;

  • Welfare Benefits and Income Maximisation, including UC; its eligibility and impact on other benefits.
  • Council Tax and Council Tax Reduction
  • Disability Benefits
  • Grants, Discounts, Cost of Living Support and schemes associated with the support of those on low/irregular income
  • Referrals and signposting to both internal and external organisations

Relevant training will be provided on all of the above as well as IT and in house systems.

Additional information

There is 1 temporary post available until 31st March 2027.

The successful applicants should be able to communicate effectively in Welsh to Level 4 – Advanced.

This post is subject to Disclosure and Barring Service Basic checks.

This vacancy is suitable for post share.

The ability to speak other languages in particular Somali, Arabic or Polish would be an advantage.

Evening and weekend working will be required on a rota basis.

Internal candidates who wish to apply for this position on a secondment basis must obtain approval prior to application using Form SEC1 (4.C.081). Requests may only be approved by the relevant Director/ Assistant Director/ Chief Officer or senior nominated officer graded no lower than OM2 or in the case of schools based staff the Headteacher / Governing Body.
