Division Overview

The Water Utilities Division is Mott MacDonald’s centre of excellence for responding to the UK and Ireland’s water and wastewater challenges. The team works on a wide range of design projects covering water treatment, distribution, wastewater networks, industrial process water, desalination, irrigation, hydropower, and flood defence.

Role Overview

Senior Electrical & Control Engineer – part of a multidisciplinary water utilities team. Responsibilities span the full project life‑cycle from feasibility studies through detailed design, construction support, commissioning and handover.

Key Responsibilities

  • Electrical power distribution design (LV and HV)
  • Control system design
  • Design and specification of communication networks and SCADA
  • Specifying renewable and backup generation systems
  • Developing plant layouts
  • Cabling and installation design
  • Instrumentation selection
  • Writing system control strategies
  • Factory and site acceptance tests of equipment
  • Providing mentoring to other electrical engineers and developing and checking designs
  • Ensuring designs meet legislation and standards
  • Integrating electrical & control design with other disciplines

Candidate Specification

Essential

  • Qualified to HND level or higher in electrical, electronic or control engineering or related discipline
  • Chartered status with the Institution of Engineering and Technology or equivalent body
  • Experience in electrical and/or control engineering design/consultancy
  • Good verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Understanding of health, safety and environmental priorities
  • Experience working in the water and/or wastewater industry
  • Good understanding of pipeline hydraulics and/or water and wastewater treatment processes

Desirable

  • Master’s degree in electrical, electronic or control engineering or related discipline
  • Interest in digital innovation in design processes
