Electrical Engineer

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Electrical Engineer to join a clean water utility on a long-term contract.You will operate as the sole Electrical Engineer in a lean in-house M&E function, working closely with mechanical colleagues and acting as the intelligent client across a portfolio of clean water assets.This role offers a high level of autonomy and visibility and will suit an engineer comfortable working independently and influencing technical outcomes.The RoleThe position sits at design authority / assurance level rather than detailed design. Candidates must, however, have a solid electrical design background and be confident reviewing and shaping design solutions produced by delivery partners.Framework contractors are responsible for detailed design and construction, while you will provide governance, challenge, and technical direction on major capital schemes, including a significant WTW upgrade project.Key AccountabilitiesAct as the internal electrical technical authorityProvide electrical input, leadership, and assurance across capital projectsReview and challenge EICA and electrical designs from external contractorsDevelop outline and functional electrical solutionsSupport electrical and generator upgrade strategiesUndertake site assessments to evaluate asset condition and identify improvement needsProvide oversight during construction, installation, and commissioningApply HV engineering expertise, including protection and integration studiesPrepare specifications and contribute to tender reviews and contractor selectionCarry out feasibility studies and produce option appraisalsSupport and review internal electrical standardsLiaise with internal teams and external stakeholders to support capital deliveryEnsure compliance with safety, quality, and environmental requirementsProvide technical support during incidents and operational events when requiredBackground & ExperienceProven electrical engineering experience within water, utilities, or comparable industrial sectorsPrevious experience in a consultancy or contractor-led design environmentComfortable operating as an Electrical Design Engineer / intelligent clientHigh-voltage experience is essentialAble to work autonomously as the only electrical specialistPractical, site-experienced engineer with strong judgementOnly those with right to work in the UK should apply for this role.
