Deputy Manager – Children’s Residential Home
Location: Merstham, Surrey
Salary: £37,117.08 – £41,053.74 per annum, depending on experience
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Hours: 40 hours per week, flexible rota
Additional Pay: Sleep-in allowance and enhanced weekend overtime
We are looking for an experienced and motivated Deputy Manager to join a 4-bed therapeutic children’s home in Merstham, Surrey, supporting predominantly female young people aged 8–16 with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.
Working alongside the Home Manager, you will help lead the staff team, oversee the day-to-day running of the home and ensure children receive safe, consistent and therapeutic care.

Key Responsibilities
Support the Home Manager with the day-to-day management of the home.
Take responsibility for the home in the Manager’s absence.
Lead, supervise and develop the residential care team.
Maintain compliance with Children’s Homes Regulations, Quality Standards and safeguarding requirements.
Ensure care plans, placement plans and risk assessments are maintained and reviewed.
Promote positive outcomes for children’s education, health, emotional wellbeing and independence.
Support young people who have experienced trauma, abuse, neglect and other adverse childhood experiences.
Manage staff rotas, supervision, appraisals and training.
Support recruitment, induction and probation of new staff.
Work effectively with social workers, families, schools and other professionals.
Maintain high standards of recording, reporting, safeguarding and health and safety.
Support quality assurance and the home in achieving and maintaining a Good or Outstanding Ofsted rating.
Participate in the management on-call rota.
Essential Requirements
Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare or equivalent.
Minimum 2 years’ relevant residential childcare experience.
Good knowledge of safeguarding, child protection and Children’s Homes Regulations.
Experience supporting children and young people with complex needs.
Strong leadership, communication and organisational skills.
Ability to supervise and develop staff.
Good report writing and IT skills.
Flexible approach to shifts, including weekends and sleep-ins.
Full UK driving licence – essential.
