About the role

PE Teacher – SEND (Autism) Hounslow September 2026 Start Full-Time Permanent MPS/UPS plus SEN allowance, dependent on experience For some pupils, PE is the part of the school day they dread most. Too much noise. Too much unpredictability. Too many social rules that nobody has explained clearly enough. But in the right environment, physical education can become something completely different. A place where confidence grows quietly. Where movement helps regulation. Where teamwork begins to feel safe. Where a young person who struggles in the classroom suddenly finds success, connection, and pride. This role is for a PE teacher who understands the power of that transformation. The school is a specialist SEND setting in Hounslow supporting pupils with Autism and associated needs. It is a purpose-built environment designed around structure, emotional safety, and personalised support. Small classes, strong staffing ratios, and integrated therapeutic support allow staff to focus on the individual needs of each pupil rather than trying to force children into systems that do not work for them. The school is continuing to grow, and the leadership team is committed to building a culture where both pupils and staff feel supported to thrive. The successful teacher will deliver PE across the school, adapting lessons thoughtfully to meet a wide range of sensory, communication, emotional, and developmental needs. The focus here is not simply sport for sport’s sake. It is using physical activity to support wellbeing, regulation, resilience, communication, and social development. The PE department benefits from excellent facilities, including a modern purpose-built sports hall and well-resourced learning spaces. Staff are encouraged to think creatively about how physical activity can engage pupils who may previously have felt disconnected from traditional PE environments. This role would suit: A SEND PE teacher looking for a highly supportive specialist environment A mainstream PE teacher interested in moving into SEND education A teacher who already adapts instinctively around individual needs Someone who values relationships and emotional wellbeing as much as academic outcomes The school would particularly value experience or interest in: Autism and neurodiversity Inclusive sports and adaptive PE approaches Trauma-informed and relational practice Sensory regulation strategies Positive behaviour support Personalised learning and EHCP outcomes You will work closely with teaching assistants, therapists, behaviour staff, and senior leaders as part of a genuinely collaborative multidisciplinary team. There is a strong emphasis on reflective practice, staff wellbeing, and ongoing professional development. QTS and a PE specialism are required. Previous SEND experience is welcomed but not essential for the right teacher with the right mindset and willingness to learn.
