About the role
Clinical Trials Assistant
Central London
Full-time, Permanent, Site Based Only
£30-£35,000 per annum
About us
Our client is a highly respected private ophthalmic clinic in London, led by a renowned consultant specialist known for providing exceptional care for patients from the UK and abroad. The clinic combines advanced clinical care with an active clinical trials and research programme covering a range of retinal and ophthalmic conditions.
About the role
This is a varied, hands-on developmental role spanning clinical trial administration, participant coordination, research data management, clinical imaging, sample processing and research support. You will work alongside the Lead Clinical Trials Coordinator, Clinical Trials Coordinators and the wider research team to support the delivery of multiple industry-sponsored and clinic-initiated studies.
This is an Assistant-level, developmental position - extensive previous clinical trials experience is not essential. Structured training will be provided across Good Clinical Practice, ophthalmic imaging, sample handling and Electronic Data Capture systems, with genuine opportunities to take on greater responsibility as your competency develops.
What you'll be doing
Supporting the day-to-day organisation and administration of clinical trials, including maintaining accurate study records, trackers and documentation
Contacting and coordinating study participants, welcoming and assisting them during their appointments
Supporting recruitment and screening activity, including maintaining recruitment trackers
Learning to carry out protocol-required ophthalmic imaging and diagnostic testing once appropriately trained and signed off as competent
Supporting the collection, preparation, processing and shipment of biological samples
Entering and checking study data accurately in Electronic Data Capture systems within agreed timelines
Supporting sponsor, CRO and monitor visits, including preparing documentation and locating records
Helping collate information for research presentations, reports and academic publications
Working in accordance with Good Clinical Practice and maintaining participant confidentiality at all times
What we're looking for
Essential:
Excellent organisational skills and a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
The ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritise effectively and work to strict deadlines
Confidence using computers, electronic systems and the ability to work with large databases
Good written and verbal communication skills
A calm, professional and compassionate approach when working with participants and colleagues
Reliability, discretion and a proactive approach to work
Flexibility regarding duties, shifts and working hours
Desirable:
Previous experience within clinical research, clinical trials or a healthcare environment
Previous patient-facing experience
Experience in ophthalmology or optometry
Familiarity with Good Clinical Practice or Electronic Data Capture systems
Working hours
This is a full-time role working 40 hours per week on a shift basis, with typical shifts of 08:00-17:00, 09:00-18:00 or 10:00-19:00. As clinical trials are time-sensitive, some flexibility will be required, including occasional earlier starts, later finishes or weekend work to support protocol-defined visits, treatments or monitoring activity.
If you're organised, detail-focused and looking to build a career in clinical research within a technology-rich ophthalmic clinic, we'd love to hear from you.
