Description
The Head of Enhancement and Assurance provides strategic and operational leadership for the College’s quality assurance, enhancement and teaching development functions, playing a critical role in delivering the Kelvin Strategic Plan 2025–2030 and the Learning, Teaching and Assessment Strategy.
The postholder will lead the development and implementation of a coherent, institution-wide approach to quality and continuous enhancement, ensuring high standards, strong learner outcomes and a culture of reflective, evidence-informed practice. They will ensure alignment with the Tertiary Quality Enhancement Framework (TQEF), national priorities and regulatory requirements, while positioning the College as a sector leader in quality and innovation.

The postholder will:
- Lead and embed a whole-College approach to quality assurance and enhancement, ensuring consistency, compliance and continuous improvement
- Provide professional leadership to quality, enhancement and teaching development teams
- Influence and support senior leaders and curriculum teams to take ownership of enhancement and performance outcome
- Build strong internal and external partnerships to support innovation, quality improvement and sector engagement
- Operate with a high degree of autonomy, professional judgement and accountability in delivering institutional priorities
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Educated to degree level or equivalent.
- A recognised teaching qualification, TQFE or equivalent.
- Evidence of Continuous Professional Development.
Desirable
- Hold GTCS registration
- In-depth understanding of the Tertiary Quality Enhancement Framework (TQEF) and the wider Scottish tertiary education quality landscape, including SFC and QAA Scotland.
- Sound knowledge of learning, teaching, and assessment practices in further education.
- Familiarity with self‑evaluation frameworks, curriculum design principles, and professional standards for teaching.
- Awareness of digital and pedagogical innovation trends in education.
- Understanding of data‑informed quality improvement and performance monitoring.
- The drivers for change within the education and public sector landscape, including skills reform, digital transformation, sustainability, equity and inclusion.
Skills and Competencies
- Effective leadership and management skills to contribute to the development of strategy and delivery.
- Ability to lead and integrate the work of strategic, pedagogical, and operational quality teams into a coherent institutional framework.
- High‑level analytical and evaluative skills, including interpreting performance and quality data.
- Excellent communication skills—able to influence, engage, and report clearly to internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong project management and organisational skills.
- Competence in digital tools and platforms used in curriculum delivery and evaluation.
- Ability to design and deliver staff development aligned with strategic priorities.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with key partners and stakeholders both internally and externally.
Professional Experience
- Significant experience in a quality assurance or enhancement leadership role, ideally in further or tertiary education.
- Proven track record of leading teaching development and quality enhancement initiatives.
- Experience of developing innovative programmes of education and training.
- Experience of working with external quality bodies, including QAA, awarding bodies, or SFC.
- Experience in preparing evaluative reports, managing inspection or review processes, and responding to national quality expectations.
- Evidence of successful budget management and resource planning.
- Demonstrated ability to support the development and implementation of institutional strategies.
Terms and Conditions
- Hours of Work: 35 hours per week Monday to Friday 8.00am to 6.00pm, core hours 9.00am to 5.00pm
- Office Location: TBC Hybrid working in place, minimum 3 days on campus.
- Pension: You are encouraged to join (or remain) with the Local Government Pension Scheme. The College is a member of the Strathclyde Pension Scheme. The Scheme changed from a final salary scheme to a career average scheme on 1 April 2015. You will automatically join the Scheme, if you wish to opt out you should contact the Senior Payroll Officer.
- Annual Leave and Public Holiday: 33 days (inclusive of 12 days fixed public holiday) Two-week closure over the festive period supported by 6 days leave from the 45 days entitlement.
