Lead complex engineering projects. Shape technical excellence. Make your mark on London's built environment.
Our client is seeking an accomplished Principal Structural Engineer to join its London team, offering an exciting opportunity to take a leading role in the delivery of major structural engineering projects. This position is ideal for a technically exceptional engineer with the leadership skills, commercial awareness and ambition to influence project outcomes and help develop a high-performing team.
Working across significant projects and multiple design packages, you will oversee structural design delivery, provide technical leadership and ensure solutions are safe, efficient, sustainable and commercially viable. From reviewing complex calculations and structural analysis to overseeing drawings, specifications, reports and digital models, you will maintain rigorous technical standards throughout every stage of project delivery.
You will take responsibility for coordinating design teams, managing resources, programmes and budgets, and ensuring projects meet agreed quality and delivery targets. The role will also involve contributing to tenders, fee proposals and technical scopes, managing design changes and working closely with clients, senior stakeholders and multidisciplinary colleagues to achieve successful outcomes.
A key part of the position will be developing technical capability across the team. Through mentoring, guidance and effective leadership, you will help engineers strengthen their expertise while encouraging innovation, collaboration and the development of practical, buildable design solutions.
Our client is looking for a degree-qualified, Chartered Structural Engineer holding CEng MIStructE or CEng MICE, with substantial experience leading structural design teams and delivering complex projects within a consultancy environment. A comprehensive understanding of UK structural design codes, technical assurance procedures and CDM responsibilities is essential, alongside strong analytical skills and the ability to review and validate sophisticated structural models.
Experience across steel, concrete, masonry and timber structures, foundations, substructures and structural assessments will be highly relevant. Backgrounds in aviation, defence, custodial or power projects would be particularly advantageous. Candidates must also hold a CSCS card, be eligible to obtain UK Security Clearance (SC) and possess a full UK driving licence.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a major engineering environment where technical expertise, commercial thinking and strong leadership are valued. With exposure to challenging projects and the opportunity to influence delivery standards, develop people and strengthen client relationships, the role offers genuine scope to make a lasting impact.
