About the role

Senior structural engineers tend to assume their options are a boutique with interesting work or a giant with interesting pay. There is a third option: a national practice where the work and the stability arrive together. This role is in the London office of a long established national engineering practice with structural, civil and geotechnical teams across the UK. The London structures workload is varied and steady: residential, commercial, education and public sector schemes, new build alongside the refurbishment and reuse work that increasingly defines the capital. As senior engineer you will lead projects from feasibility to completion, manage client and architect relationships directly, and mentor the engineers behind you. The multidisciplinary bench means you can resolve ground, drainage and structural questions inside one building rather than across three subcontracts, which makes you faster and your clients calmer. The projects also come with continuity: frameworks and repeat clients mean you finish what you start instead of being yanked between bids. The firm keeps its people, which is rare enough in London to be worth saying, and the route beyond senior is real for engineers who want it. Salary is between £56,000 and £74,000, plus a strong benefits package and hybrid working. If you want senior to mean leading work rather than chasing it, send your CV across or ask for a confidential chat first. If you’ve read this far and you’re still unsure and would prefer a detailed market insight including salary bands and market trends - then check out our free guide here: https://www.responsumltd.com/uk-salary-guide-2026
