Job overview
This post is one of the Head of Working Capital roles in our Financial Accounts Team, providing a tactical position to support Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust in a dynamic and complex financial environment. The post holder reports to a Head of Financial Account and works within a wider dynamic team to deliver an effective working capital service supporting the finances and staff across our divisions.
Responsibilities
The post holder serves as the Trust’s subject‑matter expert on liquidity and cash flow management, responsible for overseeing all aspects of working capital on a day‑to‑day basis. This includes ensuring robust systems and controls are in place to monitor, report on, and safeguard the Trust’s liquidity position, guaranteeing that sufficient funding is available to meet financial commitments. The post holder manages a department covering Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Cash Management, and Overseas Visitors, and provides leadership in developing and enhancing systems and processes across these functions to maintain compliance with trust policies and regulations. Outputs from this department directly contribute to the Trust’s financial management reporting, including performance reporting, the Annual Accounts, and statutory and central returns.
Qualifications
- CCAB/CIMA qualified
- Degree or equivalent experience
- Evidence of continued professional development or specialist training in treasury management
Experience
- Significant management experience in acute healthcare, involving responsibility for staff and setting strategic direction
- Experience managing debtors and creditors to maximise the cash flow position
- Understanding of invoicing and reconciliation processes between acute healthcare organisations
- Contribution to financial planning (short‑ and long‑term)
Knowledge & Skills
- Expert knowledge of the full range of financial accounting processes and procedures
- Excellent IT skills, including ability to create complex modelling spreadsheets
- Ability to acquire data from multiple sources, interpret and present conclusions
- Very good oral and written communication skills
- Knowledge of acute healthcare finance policies and guidance
- Understanding of liquidity issues attaching Foundation Trust status
- VAT knowledge
