About the role
We are seeking a hands-on, driven Head of IT to join a rapidly expanding specialist insurance group. This is a pivotal role for a delivery-focused leader who enjoys high levels of ownership and the opportunity to shape a technology function from the ground up.
You will act as the senior technology lead for the Group, balancing day-to-day operational excellence with the strategic foresight needed to support ambitious business growth and acquisitions.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership: Develop and deliver an IT roadmap aligned with the Group’s growth plans, providing commercially focused advice to the senior leadership team.
- Operations & Service Delivery: Oversee all infrastructure, hardware, and end-user computing, ensuring reliable service across multiple offices.
- Vendor Management: Review and manage outsourced support arrangements, ensuring external partners provide resilient and scalable service levels.
- Security & Risk: Take full ownership of cyber security, disaster recovery, and IT controls to strengthen the Group’s overall security posture.
- M&A and Integration: Manage the technical migration and integration of new business transactions, ensuring data integrity and minimal disruption.
- Innovation: Explore and implement practical uses of automation and AI to drive operational efficiency and maintain a competitive edge.
What We Are Looking For
The ideal candidate will be a collaborative professional who can move seamlessly between high-level strategy and hands-on execution.
- Proven senior IT leadership experience within the Insurance industry. Any applications from outside Insurance will not be considered.
- A track record of managing both daily IT operations and long-term technology improvements.
- Deep expertise in infrastructure, cyber security, and managing third-party IT providers.
- Strong commercial acumen, including budgeting and supplier oversight.
- A genuine interest in how automation and AI can support business growth.
- Experience leading system migrations, business acquisitions, or operational change programs.
- Experience in data-heavy environments where auditability and control are paramount.
