Mentor / Pastoral Officer - KS2 We are seeking a dedicated, compassionate and resilient Mentor/Pastoral Officer to provide full-time support to a KS2 pupil within a specialist, trauma-informed school setting. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced pastoral professional, Teaching Assistant, Learning Mentor or support worker who is passionate about supporting children to feel safe, regulated and able to access education. Details: Role: Mentor / Pastoral Officer Age Group: KS2 Hours: Full-time Start Date: ASAP Duration: Potentially long-term Setting: Specialist / trauma-informed school About the role: The successful candidate will provide dedicated key adult support to a KS2 pupil, helping them to access education while developing their emotional regulation, confidence and independence. You will provide a consistent and trusted presence throughout the school day, with a particular focus on supporting the pupil during unstructured times, when additional supervision and pastoral support may be required. The role will involve working closely with the school's clinical team, contributing to a joined-up approach around the pupil's wellbeing, behaviour and educational needs. Key responsibilities: Provide dedicated 1:1 key adult support throughout the school day Provide high levels of supervision during unstructured times Support 1:1 learning where appropriate Help the pupil access and use a safe regulation space Build a positive, trusting and consistent relationship with the pupil Liaise closely with the clinical and wider school team Support emotional regulation and engagement with learning Regularly review dependency and independence targets, helping the pupil develop greater independence over time Maintain a calm, consistent and supportive approach in line with the school's ethos You'll need: Previous experience working with children or young people in a pastoral, SEN, SEMH, therapeutic or specialist setting A calm, patient and emotionally attuned approach Experience supporting children who may experience emotional or behavioural difficulties The ability to build strong, trusting relationships Excellent communication and teamwork skills A commitment to promoting independence rather than dependency An understanding of, and commitment to, trauma-informed practice The resilience and consistency required to provide dedicated 1:1 supportThe school is committed to a trauma-informed approach and will only consider candidates whose experience, values and approach align closely with this ethos and practice.
