Mechanical & Electrical Small Works Manager

Small Works Manager – (mechanical bias as 80% of the work is HVAC) | Engineering-led contractor East London (base – 10 mins from Central line station) – work across London and surrounding areas We’re supporting a growing engineering-led contractor that delivers all the technical bits that keep buildings behaving themselves — from mechanical and electrical works to upgrades, compliance jobs and the small-but-critical projects that avoid outage-induced panic. They work across hospitals, hotels, offices, schools, industrial spaces — basically anywhere with lights, power and people who don’t want either of those to fail. They’re financially strong, scaling quickly and adding more structure… while still keeping that practical, “let’s just get it done” culture. Leaning towards a more corporate approach, without the red tape, no 14-step approval chains, decisions made quickly, all without losing their grass roots – they are M&E people after all! They’re now looking for a Small Works Manager to run a £1.5m division delivering projects up to ~£50k. What you’ll do: • Juggle multiple small works projects (without making juggling your whole personality) • Organise site teams, suppliers and materials with minimum drama • Improve the flow between service and project teams — currently a “work in progress”… • Build client relationships and bring in extra work through conversation, credibility and knowing your craft • Support pricing, commercials and forecasting • Represent the business in environments ranging from boiler rooms to boardrooms You’ll fit if you: • Are an ex-engineer, off the tools, more mechanically bias (probably around HVAC rather than electrical bias) • Can handle lots of smaller jobs at the same time without needing therapy • Are commercially switched on and can spot/win work naturally • Bring practical credibility — the kind engineers respect and clients trust • Stay calm, organised and mildly humorous under pressure What’s on offer: • A strong, stable business with real growth • Autonomy to run things like a grown-up • A bonus that rewards you properly (not the “treat yourself to a new drill bit” kind) • Leaders who value straight talking, not politics If you like responsibility, variety, and earning well for doing a great job — drop me a message.
