About the College/Department

The University of Derby Estates Department is dedicated to cultivating a vibrant, innovative, and sustainable campus environment, that supports our passion for delivering world class education and ground-breaking research.

The Estates team has over 250 colleagues, working across all of our sites on everything from the refurbishment of buildings to catering.

About the Role

As an Estates Team Member, you will play an important role in ensuring the smooth, safe, and efficient operation of the University’s estate. Working as part of a dedicated Estates team, you will provide essential porterage and logistics support across multiple University sites, helping to deliver an excellent environment for students, staff, and visitors.

This varied, hands-on role includes setting up spaces for lectures, meetings, and events, moving furniture and equipment, managing post room operations, and delivering mail, parcels, and goods between campuses. You will also drive University vehicles, maintain accurate records, and use Estates systems to manage work activities and ensure services are delivered efficiently.

You'll work closely with colleagues and customers across the University, providing a responsive and professional service while adapting to changing operational priorities. A strong commitment to teamwork, customer service, health and safety, and sustainability is essential, as is the flexibility to work across different campuses and support a wide range of Estates activities.

About You

You will be a reliable, practical, and customer-focused individual who enjoys working in a hands-on role where no two days are the same. You will take pride in delivering a high-quality service, working safely, and supporting colleagues and customers with a positive, can-do attitude.

You'll have GCSEs at Grade C/4 in English and Maths or equivalent experience; a full, clean manual UK driving licence, and be a confident driver who is happy to travel regularly between University sites. Comfortable carrying out a wide range of manual handling tasks, you will be required to physically lift up to 20kg without the use of equipment; undertaking porterage and delivery duties while following safe working practices.

You will be comfortable working independently, able to use your initiative to solve problems, and communicate effectively with people at all levels. You'll also be confident using Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, and Outlook to complete routine administrative tasks and maintain accurate records.

Flexibility is important to be successful in this role. You'll be required to adapt your working hours to support key University events, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends when required, and you understand the importance of providing a responsive service across multiple locations.

Ideally, you'll have experience working in a large, multi-site organisation, a customer service qualification, manual handling training, and an understanding of health and safety practices. Above all, you'll be committed to supporting the University's values, creating a safe and welcoming environment, and making a positive contribution to the Estates team every day.
