Catering Assistant

Randstad Education, Liverpool are looking for School Catering Assistants for roles within Sefton schools. A school catering assistant helps prepare, cook, and serve healthy meals to students and staff.

Working under a Catering Manager, responsibilities include food preparation, counter service, operating tills, and maintaining high standards of kitchen cleanliness and food hygiene.

Key Responsibilities

• Food Prep & Service: Help slice, peel, and assemble ingredients for daily meals.
• Serve food portions to students while ensuring special dietary restrictions and allergens (substances that cause allergic reactions) are strictly managed.
• Hygiene & Cleaning: Wash dishes, mop floors, and sanitize kitchen equipment to meet strict health codes. This often involves deep-cleaning.
• Customer Service: Operate the cash register or till, and maintain a friendly, welcoming environment for pupils during busy lunch periods.
• Stock Management: Help receive food deliveries, check expiration dates, and properly store items to prevent food waste.

Typical Requirements

• Work Schedule: Part-time hours, usually term-time only (working around 15-25 hours per week during the school year). This means you get school holidays off.
