We are inviting applications for a fully‑time (10 PAs) Locum Consultant Paediatrician for an initial period of 3 months. The position will commence as soon as possible and is based at Royal Preston Hospital with close collaboration across the wider paediatric team.

Scope of the role: The appointment will focus on General Paediatrics; any subspecialty interest that complements the service will be welcomed and supported. Flexibility is offered with opportunities to gain experience in a broader consultant role, including managerial and leadership responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Inpatient ward cover, supporting the Consultant of the Week.
• Assessment Unit and emergency admissions cover.
• Outpatient clinics, primarily new patient assessments.
• Evening resident shifts in the Paediatric Assessment Unit (≈6 shifts per 10‑week cycle), working alongside junior and middle‑grade doctors.
• Opportunity to undertake managerial or leadership responsibilities, as per interest and experience.

The job plan is negotiable and can be tailored to suit career aspirations, including experience for CESR or portfolio pathways, or newly qualified consultants seeking mentorship and development.

Qualifications & Training

• Full GMC Registration and License to Practice.
• MBBS or equivalent.
• MRCPCH.
• A higher qualification, e.g. MD, PhD, Diploma, Masters.
• Must be entered on the Specialist Register (or entry within 6 months).

Experience and Skills

• More than five years of experience at middle‑grade level in general paediatrics.
• Valid APLS and NLS.
• Experience in teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
