Mechanical Design Engineer Location: Manchester Salary: £43,000 – £53,000 (dependent on experience) The Business A well-established machinery manufacturer designing and building bespoke equipment used by customers worldwide. The business has built a strong reputation for equipment quality, innovation, and customer service. The Role This is a unique opportunity for a Mechanical Design Engineer to take full ownership of mechanical design within the business. The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for designing new machinery from scratch, leading concept development, prototyping and R&D, and taking designs through to manufacture. You’ll work closely with production, electrical/control panels, service engineers and project delivery teams, playing a key role in the continued growth of the business. Key Responsibilities Design bespoke machinery from concept through to manufacture Produce 3D models, assemblies and detailed drawings using Autodesk Inventor Lead R&D, prototyping and new machine development Design sheet metal and stainless-steel fabricated components Ensure designs are practical, efficient and manufacturable Support build, test, installation and commissioning phases Collaborate with production, projects and service teams Contribute ideas to improve machine performance, build quality and efficiency Requirements Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent qualifications Proven experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer within a machinery manufacturing environment Background designing bespoke machinery or handling equipment Strong experience using Autodesk Inventor Good understanding of manufacturing processes and materials Experience with sheet metal design Experience in food, beverage or packaging machinery (desired) What’s On Offer ~£43,000 – £53,000 salary depending on experience ~30 days holiday (including bank holidays + Christmas shutdown) ~ Workplace pension ~ Stable business with low staff turnover ~ Real freedom to design, innovate and create new machinery ~ Opportunity to build and shape a mechanical design function long-term
