About the role
The ASQ role is an important position within our Commercial team providing support to the wider business.
The role will be based on a single, medium to large project, or multiple smaller projects. It will assist the Commercial team to ensure project(s) are running in accordance to the budgeted forecast, and to maximise profit through good commercial acumen.
Responsibilities -
- Assist the Commercial Project Team with both Supplier and Subcontract management including the assessment of Works Done to Date for certification of applications for payment and control/reporting of costs against budget.
- Assist the Project Commercial Team with identification and pricing of variations and changes to the Contract Works and requirements.
- Contribute to regular and accurate reporting to the Senior Quantity Surveyor and/or Commercial Manager on/for: PHR/CVR/Cash Flow/Weekly Updates etc.
- Inputting commercial data into the project budget and assisting in the provision of regular commercial forecasts.
- Assist in and carry out valuations for the purpose of initial, interim and final payment applications.
- Work with the Quantity Surveyor and Commercial Team to maximise the recovery of all contractual entitlements.
- Develop an understanding of the key provisions within the terms of the contract and any conditions precedent therein, not least regarding the times for giving notices and making applications.
- Input and ownership of the notice tracker and other Commercial reports ensuring deadlines are notified to the Commercial Team.
- Keep contemporary records and ensure contemporary records are kept by the Project Team members for use in supporting claims, extensions of time, and the evaluation of variations.
- Support any tender processes and company strategy, as required.
- Promote and maintain professional working relationships.
- Assist in identifying project risks and develop and implement mitigation strategies to minimise the commercial effect of said risk.
- Keep an open and honest dialogue with the Quantity Surveyor, Commercial Manager and Head of Commercial with the escalation of any issues that pose a business risk.
- Liaise with the Company's Procurement team, as necessary for the engagement of subcontractors.
- Liaise with the Company's Work Winning team for project hand over for opportunities secured, and support in opportunities currently bid.
- Liaise with the Company's Finance team to ensure a universally agreed position of cost, value, forecast and accruals.
Requirements -
- Previous experience of working in either a Finance or Commercial department
- GCSE's in English and Maths (or equivalent)
- Adept use and knowledge of MS packages inc, Excel, Project and Word.
- Able to use accounting concepts including forecasting cost and value based on programme and scope of works.
- Understands the principles of cost and value.
- Understands the principles of risk and opportunity.
- Understands the basic skills for negotiating, settling and agreement of Interim / Final Accounts.
- Ability to record works in progress/Works Done to Date.
