About the role
We’re seeking a
Director of Finance
to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the Fund, ensuring our resources are used strategically and effectively to deliver the greatest possible impact for communities across the UK.
You will lead the development and delivery of our financial strategy, be accountable for our financial forecasting, planning, governance and compliance. You’ll also ensure that our planning and assurance frameworks support confident, evidence/insight-based decision making.
Reporting into Chief Finance & Operating Officer, you will bring together Finance, Procurement, Strategic Planning, Risk and Counter Fraud and Controls Assurance into a coherent, integrated corporate services model that supports the Fund’s long‑term sustainability and strategic ambition.
Key responsibilities
Leading the development and delivery of the Fund’s financial strategy, ensuring resources are aligned to organisational priorities and long‑term sustainability.
Overseeing financial planning, including budget setting, forecasting and multi‑year planning, fully integrated with business planning and organisational performance frameworks.
Leading the preparation of the Annual Report and Accounts, working closely with the National Audit Office and managing all statutory audit processes.
Ensuring robust financial governance, control and assurance, safeguarding public funds and maintaining compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
Providing senior leadership across Finance, Procurement, Strategic Planning, Risk and Assurance, ensuring these functions operate as a coherent and integrated framework.
Offering expert financial advice, insight and challenge to the CEO, CFOO, Executive Committee, Board and Committees, supporting decisions on performance, risk, investment and resource allocation.
Overseeing procurement and commercial activity, ensuring value for money, effective contract management and alignment with organisational priorities.
Leading the development and maintenance of the Fund’s strategic risk management framework, supporting informed decision making.
Ensuring strategic planning, corporate planning and programme reporting mechanisms are clear, effective and add strategic value.
Being a visible, inclusive and compassionate leader, developing high‑performing teams with a customer‑centred mindset.

Location:
UK - We have a hybrid approach to working. The Finance team is predominately based in the midlands, so expectation to travel when required.
Work pattern and location will be agreed with the successful candidate. The role can be based at any of our UK offices: Belfast, Birmingham, Cardiff, Exeter, Glasgow, Leeds, London, Manchester, Newcastle, and Newtown.

Fully qualified accountant with significant post qualified experience leading large finance functions at a senior strategic level.
Strong understanding of government/FReM accounting, public sector financial frameworks and statutory reporting requirements.
Proven track record of developing and delivering dynamic financial strategies that drive efficiency, capability and organisational performance.
Experience of leading improvements to financial systems, processes and controls.
Confidence advising senior stakeholders, Boards, Executives and managing large, complex budgets in accordance with governmental and public sector requirements.
Experience of leading Procurement, Compliance and Risk Management functions.
Experience overseeing strategic, value‑added annual business planning processes and leading complex year‑end reporting and statutory audit activity.
Proven senior leadership experience, with the ability to influence and advise at Committee and organisational leadership levels.
