About the role

Infrastructure Project Engineer (Azure / Microsoft 365)
Gloucester HQ | Hybrid, 3 days a week in the office | £55,000 | Permanent

A growing group business is looking for an experienced Microsoft infrastructure engineer who wants to move into project delivery. Reporting to the IT Director, you'll take IT projects from start to finish: scoping them, building them yourself and handing them over.

The group grows partly through acquisition, so bringing newly acquired businesses onto its Microsoft 365 and Azure environment is a regular part of the job, alongside a wider programme of infrastructure, cloud and business systems projects.

The IT team is lean. There's no project office and no bench of engineers to hand work to; you'll do the technical work yourself and own the delivery around it. It's a genuine route into project management without leaving the technology behind. You'll also be the person who makes sure everyone knows where each project stands.

Who this suits:
A 3rd line, infrastructure or cloud engineer with strong Azure and M365 skills who has already been leading projects or workstreams and wants that to be the main job
An MSP project or implementation engineer who has delivered migrations and onboarding for clients and wants to do it in-house
What you'll be doing:
Delivering Azure and Microsoft 365 projects hands-on: design, configuration, testing and deployment
Migrating and integrating acquired businesses onto group systems (tenants, identities, devices, data)
Gathering requirements from the business and turning them into plans with clear milestones
Writing test plans and running testing with users
Acting as the main point of contact for stakeholders and keeping project progress visible
Holding suppliers and colleagues to what they've committed to
Working with third parties on scoping, quotes and delivery
Tracking project costs and reporting progress to the IT Director
Working within ITIL change processes
Handing projects over to support with full documentation and training
What you'll need:
3rd line level experience across Microsoft 365 and Azure (for example Entra ID, Exchange Online, Intune, Teams/SharePoint, Azure infrastructure and networking)
Experience leading technical projects or workstreams, even if “project manager” hasn't been your job title
Evidence of requirements gathering, documentation, planning and keeping stakeholders updated
Migrations, rollouts or infrastructure upgrades delivered from start to finish
Experience working within change management
Clear communication with non-technical users and senior people
The confidence to chase and challenge people you don't manage
Useful but not essential:
Microsoft certifications such as AZ-104, MS-102, AZ-900 or MS-900
Tenant-to-tenant migrations or integrating acquired businesses
PRINCE2 Foundation, Agile or other project training
Exposure to project budgets or cost tracking

If you're an engineer who is already doing the project work and wants it to be the job, we'd like to hear from you. Apply with your CV and we'll be in touch.
