Housing Defects & Compliance Officer - Southend - £37,000 per annum

9am - 5:30pm Monday to Friday, out on site, fleet car provided

Portfolio covers South East - Essex and London

Overview

An established organisation in the private rented sector is looking for a Housing Defects & Compliance Officer to help ensure its property portfolio remains safe, compliant, and well maintained. This is a hands-on role focused on inspections, defect identification, and coordinating maintenance works.

Key Responsibilities

• Inspect vacant and occupied properties, identifying defects and required works
• Produce clear reports and schedules for maintenance teams
• Investigate issues and coordinate with contractors to ensure timely resolution
• Monitor compliance with licensing and health & safety regulations
• Carry out routine inspections and flag risks early
• Support an out-of-hours emergency rota

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years’ experience in property inspections or defect identification
• Knowledge of maintenance and health & safety standards
• Strong organisational and communication skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office
• Full UK driving licence

Desirable: PRS experience, knowledge xwzovoh of housing legislation, property systems (e.g. MRI)
