Hours: 40 (42.5 including breaks). Flexibility required, including weekend and late clinics.
Grade: Band 8 (a,b,c)
Reports managerially to the Clinical Director, CAMHS, Maudsley Health.
Employment by MACANI LLC.
Main duties of the job
To demonstrate clinical excellence in a specialist area and carry a highly specialist clinical caseload.
To have responsibility for the professional leadership, supervision, and line management of psychologists and assistant psychologists within the relevant CAG.
To devise, develop, and implement policies and lead service developments as required for the CAG.
To consider the training needs of psychology staff to ensure professional development and delivery of up-to-date practices.
To be responsible to the Clinical Director for monitoring and implementing clinical and professional standards in the practice of applied psychology and psychotherapy, and for the systematic and effective provision of professional and clinical supervision.
To contribute to enabling other staff, service users and carers from diverse backgrounds to flourish by working to create a psychologically safe environment.
To encourage the conduct of research, service evaluation and audits, as agreed with the Maudsley Health Senior Management Team and Academic Director, ensuring these are relevant to the service.
To be responsible for the clinical governance, quality and appropriateness of the work of psychologists in the CAG, and to manage the placements of interns as required.
Job responsibilities
- Clinical and client care: Review and recommend plans of delivery for psychological care, coordinate integrated delivery with other agencies, provide specialist services, conduct assessments, formulate psychological interventions, develop individualized therapies, provide culturally appropriate interventions, assess and monitor risk, act as care coordinator, ensure services are acceptable and accessible.
- Team and service clinical functioning: Work collaboratively with senior staff, chair clinical team meetings, ensure effective team functioning, maintain a psychologically informed framework, support culturally competent services, advise on specialist care, liaise with referrers, and apply evidence-based practice.
- Policy and service development: Develop, interpret, and implement policies, engage service users, participate in national guideline initiatives, implement clinical governance, manage service quality, lead bids and business cases for service development.
- Resource management: Recommend psychological resources, identify required materials, and order through the system.
- Management and supervision: Provide leadership, ensure supervision systems, advise on recruitment and appraisals, role model staff management, provide professional and clinical supervision, deputise to senior staff, and enhance service efficiency.
- Teaching and training: Provide consultancy, supervision, teaching and training, support training plans, maintain current developments, and manage specialist placements for interns.
- Record-keeping and information governance: Ensure proper record keeping, report writing, and electronic data entry.
- Research and development: Plan, initiate and complete research, service evaluation and audits, provide expertise, implement outcome measurement, and monitor evidence-based practice.
- Professional standards and continuing development: Receive supervision, maintain CPD, keep up-to-date with legislation, comply with HCPC and BPS standards, meet licensing requirements, and ensure staff maintain standards.
- General duties: Travel for visits and meetings, manage risk of aggressive behavior, respond to distressing situations, and work flexibly with late clinics and weekends.
