Specialist Pharmacist – NHS Lothian Pharmacy & Medicines Service – Western General Hospital
Band 7 | 0.83 WTE | 30 Hours
Permanent Post
£52,845 – £61,466 pro rata per annum (includes weekends, on‑call and public holiday commitment)
About the Role
This post is an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated and enthusiastic pharmacist looking to gain experience, specialise or advance in Medicine of the Elderly (MOE). The role offers a chance to make a meaningful impact on the care of frail older people across admissions and downstream MOE wards.
Responsibilities
- Play a key role in the pharmaceutical care of older people.
- Collaborate closely with the MOE pharmacy team and wider multidisciplinary team (MDT) to optimise patients’ medicines and care.
- Support and develop other members of the pharmacy team.
- Benefit from opportunities for service improvement, professional development and delivery of education and training (including prescribing and other advanced framework competencies).
- Participate in MOE ward rounds in the Medical Assessment Unit and specialist MOE admissions unit.
- Attend downstream ward multidisciplinary team meetings and ward rounds.
- Contribute to service development projects aimed at improving patient care and modernising service delivery.
Qualifications
- Master of Pharmacy Degree (or equivalent) and General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) registration.
- Completion of or equivalent competence mapped to the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) post‑registration foundation pharmacist curriculum.
- A commitment to improving patient care through proactive, evidence‑based pharmaceutical services.
- Experience in influencing prescribing practices and working in a patient‑focused environment.
