About the role

Job Description

An exciting opportunity at a luxury hotel near Edinburgh Waverley station, which is currently looking for an Assistant Chief Engineer to join their team on a permanent basis.

Job Duties

  • Assist the Chief Engineer to ensure smooth day‑to‑day operations within the maintenance and engineering department.
  • Maintain building systems to ensure optimal functionality.
  • Ensure full compliance with industry standards and internal regulations, including statutory requirements related to building operations.
  • Support health and safety standards to provide a safe environment for all occupants.
  • Test and maintain emergency lighting in accordance with regulations.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of Legionella awareness and relevant health and safety legislation.
  • Supervise and coordinate preventive maintenance work and conduct regular safety and maintenance inspections across the hotel.
  • Coordinate and supervise contractors to ensure services are delivered efficiently and to the highest quality under the guidance of the Chief Engineer.

Job Requirements

  • Proven 3 years of experience as an assistant maintenance engineer in a luxury hotel environment (ideally qualified in plumbing or electrical engineering).
  • Proficient use of maintenance and building management systems.
  • Extensive technical knowledge in air conditioning, plumbing, refrigeration, and boiler systems.
  • A strong commitment to delivering excellence and ensuring quality service in all interactions.
  • Teamwork and collaboration are essential for providing seamless service to our clients and ensuring that we meet our goals.
  • Excellent customer service skills and strong problem‑solving abilities.

Job Location

Near Edinburgh Waverley Station, EH1 3EG, United Kingdom.

Team Structure

  • Reports directly to the Chief Engineer.
  • Supports management of one supervisor, five permanent/one part‑time engineers, one administrator, and four painters.
