Assistant Team Manager – Children’s Services (Locum) Location: Hart & Rushmoor, Hampshire County Council Rate: £42.00 per hour Job Type: Full-Time, Locum (Non-Caseholding) Working Pattern: Hybrid Start: ASAP (Urgent Requirement) Hampshire County Council is urgently seeking an experienced Assistant Team Manager to join Children’s Services in the Hart & Rushmoor area. This is a key leadership opportunity for a confident and skilled practitioner who can support frontline social work teams, drive high standards of practice, and ensure strong outcomes for children and families. This is a non-caseholding role, allowing you to focus on supervision, operational oversight, quality assurance, and supporting social workers in delivering safe, timely, and effective interventions. You will play a vital role in maintaining performance, supporting practice improvement, and ensuring statutory responsibilities are consistently met. You will be part of a supportive and collaborative service, working in a hybrid model that promotes flexibility while maintaining strong engagement with the team and service delivery. Key Responsibilities: * Provide operational support to the Team Manager within Children’s Services * Offer supervision, guidance, and professional oversight to social workers * Support performance management, practice standards, and service improvement * Ensure compliance with statutory frameworks including Working Together to Safeguard Children and relevant legislation * Contribute to quality assurance activity, audits, and case file reviews * Support duty systems and ensure effective multi-agency collaboration * Assist in workforce development and team performance * Promote safe, timely, and effective interventions for children and families About You: * Significant experience in a senior social work role within Children’s Services (ATM, Senior Practitioner, or equivalent) * Strong leadership and supervisory experience in frontline teams * Excellent knowledge of safeguarding, child protection, and relevant children’s legislation * Experience in performance management and quality assurance * Ability to support and develop practitioners in a fast-paced environment * Strong communication, organisation, and decision-making skills * Social Work England registration and relevant social work qualification required This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced senior practitioner to step into a high-impact leadership role within a forward-thinking children’s service, helping shape practice and improve outcomes for children and families.
