National Highways have an excellent opportunity for a Geotechnical Engineer to join our Asset Management division within the Yorkshire and North East Operations Directorate to undertake the identification of asset needs and progress solutions.
As a Geotechnical Engineer, you will predominantly organise inspections, undertake site visits, manage data, develop feasibility studies for renewals and/or improvements, including the compiling and checking of relevant documents, evidence and options for value management along with considering new techniques, materials, buildability and costs.
This role can be based from our Wakefield or Darlington office on a hybrid basis.
Please note that you will be required to drive as part of your role and you will need to have a full driving licence, with no more than 3 points, to be considered for this position.
Activities and resources involved in the identification and evaluation of asset data and needs in order to develop early solutions, in line with agreed methodologies and prioritisation criteria.
Development of CD622 geotechnical reports.
Prepare briefs and support delivery of survey works, including ground investigation specifications, that support the renewal and/or improvement of assets.
Preliminary design of Geotech renewals and maintenance schemes.
Development of forward works programme.
About you
Essential: Degree in Civil Engineering / Geology or a qualification of a similar discipline. Membership of a professional body (e.g. ICE, Geological Society, IOMMM).
Demonstrable experience in: Geotechnical engineering and/or engineering geology. Ground investigation techniques, scoping and procurement. Managing geotechnical risk, including identification, understanding ground conditions and mitigation. Preparation of reports to CD 622 and/or BS EN 1997.
Awareness of the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) and its application along with infrastructure design and asset management decision making.
Familiarity with GIS software (QGIS / ArcGIS) and data management, along with other typical geotechnical packages.
Understanding of CDM Regulations and safe working practices.
