About the Role
Aberdeen combines a strong commercial identity with a growing demand for practical and well‑designed residential and workplace interiors. At Samar Furniture and Interiors, we create functional spaces that balance comfort, quality and visual appeal. We are looking for an Interior Designer who can develop thoughtful design concepts, prepare accurate layouts, select suitable materials and guide projects from the initial client discussion through to installation. You will work closely with customers, furniture specialists, suppliers, installers and project coordinators to create interiors that meet the client’s style, budget and practical requirements.
Why Work With Us?
The Environment: Our workplace is based in Altens Industrial Estate, one of Aberdeen’s established commercial areas. You will work in a professional environment that brings together design, furniture selection, project planning and installation services.
Creative Responsibility: You will have the opportunity to shape residential, retail, office and hospitality interiors while contributing ideas throughout each stage of the project.
Project Variety: You will work on spaces of different sizes and styles, from individual rooms and furniture layouts to complete interior refurbishment projects.
Professional Development: You will gain practical exposure to space planning, supplier coordination, material selection, budgeting, client presentations and project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Design Concept Development: create interior design concepts that reflect the client’s requirements, preferred style, available space and approved budget.
- Space Planning: prepare practical layouts that improve movement, furniture placement, storage, lighting and overall use of each space.
- Client Consultation: meet with clients to understand their goals, preferences, project limitations and expected completion dates.
- Technical Drawings: produce floor plans, elevations, furniture layouts, lighting plans and other drawings required for project approval and installation.
- Material Selection: recommend suitable furniture, finishes, flooring, fabrics, colours, lighting, fixtures and decorative elements.
- Design Presentations: prepare mood boards, samples, sketches, visual presentations and digital concepts to communicate design recommendations clearly.
- Furniture Specification: select furniture products and customised pieces that meet the project’s design, quality, dimensional and budget requirements.
- Cost Coordination: work with estimators, suppliers and project coordinators to ensure proposed designs remain within the approved financial range.
- Supplier Coordination: communicate with manufacturers and suppliers regarding product specifications, samples, availability, pricing and delivery schedules.
- Site Visits: visit project locations to take measurements, review existing conditions, verify installation details and monitor design implementation.
- Project Documentation: maintain accurate records of client approvals, product selections, design revisions, measurements and technical specifications.
- Installation Support: coordinate with installers and contractors to ensure furniture, fittings, finishes and decorative elements are positioned correctly.
- Quality Review: inspect completed work, identify design or installation concerns and help coordinate appropriate corrections before final handover.
What We Are Looking For
- Experience: at least 2 to 4 years of experience in interior design, furniture design, space planning, residential or commercial interiors.
- Education: a diploma or degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, Spatial Design, Furniture Design or a related discipline is preferred.

- Design Software: experience with AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, Revit or similar interior design and visualisation software is preferred.
- Technical Knowledge: good understanding of measurements, furniture specifications, materials, finishes, lighting, colour coordination and installation requirements.
- Creative Skills: ability to develop attractive concepts while considering functionality, durability, budget, and client expectations.
- Communication Skills: strong spoken and written English is required together with the ability to present design recommendations clearly and professionally.
- Customer Focus: ability to listen carefully, manage client expectations, respond constructively to feedback and maintain a positive working relationship.
