Mechanical Technician

Mechanical Technician * Contract (Inside IR35) * Up to £35.00 per hour (Umbrella PAYE) * Location: Abingdon, Oxfordshire (Full-Time Onsite) * Duration: 12 Months Ceto Talent are representing a leading UK-based organisation at the forefront of advanced energy and engineering research. Overview We are looking for a Mechanical Technician to support a major experimental engineering programme, with a focus on shutdown activities and ongoing system maintenance. This is a hands-on role working on complex, high-spec mechanical systems within a highly regulated and safety-critical environment. Key Responsibilities * Support planned shutdown activities, including preparation and execution of mechanical works * Carry out installation, maintenance, fault finding, and repair of mechanical systems * Work across systems including vacuum, cooling, pressurised, and electromagnetic equipment * Assist with large-scale installation programmes and specialist in-vessel works * Support operational efficiency through maintenance and intervention activities * Compile work packages, including safe systems of work and maintenance procedures * Document processes for installation, testing, and maintenance activities * Supervise mechanical fitters and junior personnel where required * Provide support to Plant Responsible Officers (PROs) and wider engineering teams * Maintain high safety standards, ensuring compliance with risk assessments and regulatory requirements * Promote strong safety culture, housekeeping, and behavioural standards Requirements * Completed a recognised mechanical apprenticeship or equivalent * Level 3 NVQ in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) * Experience within an industrial mechanical environment (assembly and maintenance) * Ability to work independently within a complex, high-hazard environment * Experience supervising technicians or craft labour Desirable: * Experience working with vacuum systems * Basic understanding of electrical systems * Knowledge of modern manufacturing techniques * Experience working under formal safe systems of work (RAMS, method statements, risk assessments) Please contact Jasmine White at Ceto Talent if you're interested to learn more.
