Overall job purpose:
To provide essential support within busy kitchen environments by ensuring high standards of cleanliness, organisation and food safety. The role is vital in keeping fast?paced kitchens running smoothly through efficient cleaning, equipment maintenance, stock handling and general back?of?house support.
Key responsibilities:
Maintain high levels of cleanliness across kitchens, food preparation areas, pot wash sections and storage spaces.
Operate dishwashers and pot?wash equipment safely and efficiently, ensuring all crockery, utensils and kitchen tools are cleaned to required standards.
Manually wash larger items, pans and equipment that cannot be processed through machines.
Ensure floors, work surfaces, walls and waste areas are kept clean, sanitised and hazard?free throughout service.
Support chefs by keeping workstations stocked, organised and free from clutter.
Set up and clear down kitchen areas before and after service, ensuring all equipment is cleaned, stored and ready for use.
Follow all food safety, hygiene, allergen and health & safety procedures.
Report any equipment faults, maintenance issues or safety concerns promptly.
Receive, check and store deliveries, following stock rotation and safe storage procedures.
Assist with stock movement, waste disposal, recycling and general kitchen organisation.
Support kitchen teams during busy periods, responding quickly to changing priorities.
Work collaboratively with chefs and colleagues, maintaining a positive, reliable and flexible approach.
Use cleaning products and equipment responsibly, supporting sustainability and safe working practices.
Candidate requirements:
Basic understanding of hygiene, cleaning and safe working practices.
Ability to work efficiently in a fast?paced, high?pressure kitchen environment.
Strong teamwork skills and the ability to support chefs and colleagues effectively.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to follow instructions and maintain high standards consistently.
Reliable, proactive and able to stay organised during busy service periods.
Comfortable with manual handling, physical tasks and working in a heat?intensive environment.
