About the role
Our client Leeds city council is looking for an EHC Assessment and Review Officer to join their assessment team.
Can be FULLY REMOTE or Hybrid
Job purpose & context:
Responsible for SEN casework and the effective administration of statutory assessment and review processes under the Education Act 1996, the Children and Families Act 2014 and the SEND Regulations 2014. Work collaboratively with the service and partners to monitor provision and outcomes for children with SEN, improve the quality of EHC plans, and ensure work is completed within statutory timescales.
Accountabilities:
Support the Casework Officer (CO) with managing a caseload of children and young people, ensuring coordinated, child‑centred assessments and clear communication with families and professionals.
Make informed decisions on casework, including speaking with families about complex or challenging cases and offering practical solutions.
Work directly with parents and young people during statutory assessments so they understand the process, their rights, and how to express their views.
Support the timely completion of statutory assessments and annual reviews, including drafting documentation and ensuring all work meets statutory deadlines.
Maintain close liaison with education, health, and social care professionals involved in assessments and provide updates on case progress.
Attend and, where needed, chair annual reviews and multi‑agency meetings on behalf of the Local Authority.
Assist COs in advising families on appropriate educational provision and placements, including negotiations about support, funding, Tribunal‑related matters, exclusions, admissions, attendance, and follow up with appropriate actions.
