Mobile Device Extraction Technician

T o support offices investigating crime by providing evidence secured from mobile phones and any other digital storage media devices in a manner acceptable to the courts and to assist with any other technical elements to criminal investigations whenever necessary and appropriate.

You will be required to demonstrate in your application the minimum requirement for the role:

• Proven decision-making and communication skills.
• Ability to disassemble/assemble mobile devices and computers e.g. mobile phones, tablets, laptops etc.
• Knowledge of different digital storage devices.
• Able to problem solve different and varied issues through innovative and creative thinking very often in areas without previous points of reference.
• Able to effectively brief staff and represent the Force on matters relating to mobile and digital storage devices in relation to crime.
• Willingness to undertake personal study.
• Ability to organise own workload to meet challenging demands.
• Ability to present complex data in a clear and precise manner to a diverse audience.
• Must be able to evidence through other work an ability to gather, analyse and process information with comprehensive reference to external sources in production of a final report.
• Educated to HNC or equivalent level in Computer Science, Forensic Computing, or related subject; or possess an equivalent amount of relevant proven experience and understanding of the area of business (for example – experience in the private sector dealing with computer crime/security investigations, mobile telephone operator etc).
• Knowledge of mobile phones operating systems.

Please be aware that the time commitment for this role is 2 years.

Opening Evening

The Digital Forensic Unit will be holding an opening evening on Thursday the 13th August 2026 at 6pm in St Asaph Divisional Headquarters (LL17 0HQ). This is a great opportunity if you are interested in applying for the role and would like to know a little bit more about the role, the department & the recruitment process.

It is recommended that you attend the opening evening before completing the application form so that you have all the necessary information to do so.

When attending we ask that you -

• Bring a valid form of Identification (driving license or passport) for security purposes, a copy will be taken.
• Arrive between 17:30-17:45

Someone from the department will meet you to obtain details before making your way to the meeting room for the input at 6pm.

The opening evening will consist of a tour of DFU, an input into the role, a discussion on the recruitment process and a Q&A session. We ask that no guests are brought to the event.
